Summer Knitting

I really hadn’t been knitting much this summer. Not sure if it was the weather or just plain laziness. But I’m back into it now. Christmas is right around the corner and I want to try and sneak in a few handmade gifts. I’m also itching (teehee) to do another sweater or cardigan now that I can seam. The green mitts above were my little practice project - there were knit flat. I actually prefer knitting on straight needles, it’s more relaxing. Long circular needles tend to twist madly and double-pointed needles can be deadly like a porcupine. Currently, I am working on my first lace project, a simple but infuriating pattern that just might cost me my sanity.

August Running Goals

Walk/run interval training finished a few weeks ago and I tried for a little bit, just to wing it and run without a plan. It didn’t work out so well. I had mental “I can’t do it” days and bad, bad weather - I just didn’t really get any further. Last Friday, I decided to run at night - while it was amazingly cool with low humidity and it went absolutely amazing! I found my long distance pace (10’20"-10’40"/mi), the pace that I can finally start extending my run without chickening out at the end. Admitting it feels like I’m crawling but speed isn’t really important to me - not trying to win any races here, I’d rather get miles in.

Since I apparently need a plan, my goals for the rest of August is to increase my distance 15% each week, with a recovery week thrown in.

Week 1: 36min

Week 2: 43min

Week 3: 30min

Week 4: 52min

Week 5: 62min

I’d also like to run a mile and see how fast I can do it. It’s been awhile since I sprinted.

After two days of fairly nice weather, it seems we are back to the crazy thundershowers. The weather statement says the storm is producing penny sized hail, gah. I swear, they try and scare the crap out of you too:

“THIS IS A DANGEROUS STORM. IF YOU ARE IN ITS PATH...PREPARE IMMEDIATELY FOR DAMAGING WINDS...DESTRUCTIVE HAIL AND DEADLY CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING. GO INDOORS NOW...PREFERABLY INSIDE A STRONG BUILDING AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS.”

Gosh. All I know is… there had better be no tornadoes.

Hello Expression Engine!

Yeah, I’m impatient. I was going to wait for Expression Engine 2.0 to come out but after reading they had a lot of work left, I went ahead and moved. So far, I like. The ability to have multiple template groups and weblogs is pretty neat. With WP, I really disliked filtering out categories to constrain content. For example, if I had a media section and a written blog section - shouldn’t those two things be separate blogs with their own templates, comments, and queries? Content comes in all forms and I think it’s great that EE lets you manage it the way you want.

As for older content, hmmm - not sure if I’m putting it back. Starting anew is slightly refreshing.
